Once you have a solid SEO strategy in place you can start to look for different and unique ways to improve that strategy. There are actually quite a few options that online marketers have when it comes to SEO that are not quite as talked about in the industry. For many companies, trying some of these less-popular methods might be exactly what they need to bring their SEO efforts to the next level. As long as you make sure you know how to deal with change (particularly changes in rankings or reacting to Google updates), getting more advanced will be a step in the right direction.

Top Unique SEO Strategies to Try This Year

Below are a few less popular SEO strategies to try if you have your SEO under control and are looking for something new:

Email Signature Page

By now hopefully you have a great email signature with all of your social media links, your company logo, and of course your title and other contact information. What most people do is link back to the homepage of their website to help drive more traffic, but you may want to consider creating a custom-landing page where they can learn more about you. Because the clicks will be coming from an email you already have some sort of connection to the reader, so sending them to a page to learn more about you is a great way to strengthen that relationship. After all, relationships are the key to great SEO, which you can learn more about here. Below is a sample screenshot from a ConversionXL article:

Become a Guest Speaker

This not only refers to different conferences and seminars, but also webinars, training workshops, or even speaking at your University or a local event. The more often you can get out there and get talking the more chances you have to help publicize your brand and show yourself as an authority in your niche. By gaining visibility, you will hopefully improve your traffic and then get some backlinks along the way. If nothing else, wherever you spoke should give you a backlink on an introduction page or a webpage that discusses your speech. This will help bring you social attention and gain more opportunities.

Give SlideShare a Try

SlideShare has been around for a while but many companies still don’t use it. According to Slideshare, it is the world’s largest community for sharing presentations and among one of the 120 most visited websites in the world with nearly 60 million unique visitors per month. Check out this article for a list of SlideShare presentations on SEO that we saw in 2014. Below is an example of what SlideShare looks like:

The greatest part about SlideShare is the fact that it’s so easy to use. If you ever give a presentation or even just hold a meeting with your coworkers, see if you can convert your notes into a PowerPoint presentation to help other people. Upload your presentation to SlideShare and again, gain more visibility for your brand by taking advantage of their traffic. Google also likes SlideShare presentations and tends to rank them highly on SERPs, which is something to keep in mind.

Work with Related Companies

In other words, find related companies in your industry and see if there is any way that you can partner up to gain referrals and backlinks. Some companies will offer free services first to a complimentary company so that they will have an opportunity to write about your company; therefore getting your information in front of an entirely new audience.

Google+ Ripples

This is one of my favorite tools that is still pretty unique for most companies. Google+ Ripples are a feature of Google+ where you can find influencers in your circles and see which piece of content that you shared are getting the most shares. You can learn to analyze Google+ Ripples here and then you will be able to easily determine how to get your posts shared by an influencer. Below is an example of what the tool looks like. Sometimes the Ripples can be complicated and very active (like the one below), or they can be as small as just two circles:

Fortunately, most of the unique SEO tips mentioned above are free or very inexpensive, so they’re worth a try if you’re looking for something new. Do you know of any other SEO tricks that companies may be overlooking? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
